Fleet electrification is more than a vehicle upgrade—it's a complete shift in how fleets operate. It demands new strategies, adjustments in daily logistics, and updated performance tracking systems.

To gain better insights into this transition, Qmerit conducted a detailed survey among fleet professionals including directors, managers, and coordinators. The findings offer practical, real-world data that can help other organizations make informed decisions on their electrification journey.

The results reveal a strong push toward EV adoption. As of 2024, 64% of fleet professionals reported already having EVs in their operations, with expectations for that figure to rise significantly in 2025.

Additionally, 87% of fleets plan to go electric within the next five years. For those not fully ready to transition, Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) serve as a flexible middle ground, combining electric efficiency with fuel backup.

Nearly a third of surveyed fleets already use PHEVs, demonstrating a growing interest in hybrid strategies as part of the overall electrification process.

Despite the momentum, several barriers remain. The most cited challenge is the upfront cost of EVs, although long-term fuel and maintenance savings make EVs cost-effective over time.

Infrastructure limitations, such as the availability and reliability of public charging stations, are also concerns. Many fleets are addressing this by investing in home and centralized charging hubs.

Additionally, range anxiety and infrastructure buildout costs remain concerns, but modern EVs now offer close to 300 miles of range, and incentives like tax credits can significantly offset setup costs for charging networks.

Overall, the Qmerit survey underscores the real advantages of fleet electrification. Lower fuel expenses, reduced maintenance, and growing EV availability all contribute to a stronger return on investment.
